What holds you back from installing .NET 2 anyway?

1. Confusion as to whether their will be conflicts between the various versions 2. Amount of machines/reinstalls I have to work with makes it really frustrating each time I do have to install a framework 3. apt-get has spoiled me 4. Apple/Cocoa has spoiled me
I forgot to mention something in my post. Its not just installation that is frustrating. If I want to start writing for windows, what framework do I use? .Net 3.0, 3.5 or x.x. Will my users have it installed? Will they have to install it? Will they not use my software if asked to install a framework?

Too many questions.
